The idea of working with other artists and writers on projects has intrigued and enticed me ever since the jazz pianist, Paulette Thompson, set three of my poems to music a few years ago.
In some very important ways I consider writing workshops and critique sessions a kind of collaboration, but more compelling to me is work created with another person’s material contribution. A book of poems written in conversation by two or more poets—the poets working off one another like a traditional ring of sonnets–is an example of what I have in mind. In visual art the collaboration could take the form of an assemblage.
