Although making collages was included in the art curriculum at my elementary school, I came to the practice of collage many years after poetry came to me.  Collecting and incorporating various often seemingly disparate elements to construct an image is a gratifying process–just about the best kind of fun.  Learning about materials is an ongoing pleasure.  Discovering there are websites devoted to specific supplies–especially different kinds of glue for paper, fabric, metal or ceramics–is a continual wonder.  When members of my collage collaborative engage in critique of our work, it feels bracing, symbiotic, sustaining and communal.

Speaking in the broadest possible, metaphoric terms, I love knowing adherence is possible, serving the intention of adherence, joining this to that. Adhering is key.
